Northern Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis)

At the heart of the zoo’s savanna exhibit lives Sky, a Northern giraffe who never fails to captivate visitors with her towering elegance and playful demeanor. Sky was born at the zoo five years ago and quickly became a favorite among staff and guests. Her most distinctive feature is a heart-shaped patch on her neck, which the keepers affectionately call her “badge of love.”

Sky’s curiosity is her defining trait. She loves observing visitors and often stretches her neck over the feeding station to interact with them. Kids adore feeding her leaves and carrots, which she gently plucks from their hands with her 45-centimeter-long prehensile tongue. Her delicate yet engaging approach makes her a superstar during the zoo's educational sessions.

Sky’s personality is as unique as her appearance. On hot summer days, she enjoys cooling off by rubbing against the misting system installed in her habitat. In winter, she can often be seen using her tongue to grab branches placed high on her indoor feeding structure, mimicking her natural browsing behavior. Through her story, the zoo emphasizes the challenges giraffes face in the wild, including habitat destruction and declining populations, encouraging visitors to support conservation efforts.
